Heartworms: Enough is enough!

Worms really do grow and take over the heart.

Heartworms are fatal if left untreated.

April is officially Heartworm Awareness Month, but we felt this message could not wait. It’s only mid-February, and already SCAMP has paid for FOUR dogs to receive heartworm treatments this year! And yesterday we found out a fifth dog at Cheatham County Animal Control has tested positive. Let’s hope we don’t keep this pace up all year because that will make for a costly 2022. We have got to get the word out that being a responsible dog owner includes year round heartworm prevention. Talk to your vet about options. This is a preventable disease. Fatal if untreated. Expensive and intensive to treat. SCAMP will make sure our CCAC dogs get treated, thanks to your generous donations. But we sure would like to see these numbers come down, and heartworm prevention is the key.
